This manual explains global search in Contact Ground.

You can open search by:

  1. Clicking the search field in the top bar.
  2. Using keyboard shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + K.

Search helps you quickly find:

  1. Members
  2. Resources
  3. Events

Results are grouped by type and can be selected to navigate directly.

3. How Search Behaves

  1. Enter at least 3 characters. Fewer characters will not return results.
  2. Results update as you type (with a short delay for performance).
  3. Select a result to open that record/page. The search dialog closes automatically.

4. Search Tips and Examples

4.1 Members

  • Search by first name, last name, or email address.
  • Partial names work: searching joh may return John, Johnny, or Johnson.
  • Example: entering smith returns all members with "smith" in their name or email.

4.2 Resources

  • Search by aircraft tail number or resource name.
  • Partial tail numbers work: searching N12 returns resources like N1234A.
  • Example: entering cessna returns resources with "Cessna" in the name.

4.3 Events

  • Search by event name, member name, or resource.
  • Useful for finding a specific upcoming or past booking without scrolling the calendar.
  • Example: entering checkride returns events with that term in the title.

5. Why Search Is Useful

  1. Jump to a member without opening full people lists.
  2. Jump to a resource from any page.
  3. Find recent/upcoming events faster than manual calendar scanning.
  4. Quickly navigate the system from a single keyboard shortcut.

6. Tips

  1. Use partial names or tail numbers for faster matching.
  2. If you do not see an expected result, check organization context and your role permissions—search only returns records you have access to.
  3. Results are limited in number. If your search term is too broad (for example, a single letter), enter at least 3 characters to narrow results.
  4. Use Cmd/Ctrl + K from any page to open search without using the mouse.

7. Troubleshooting

  1. No results appear: Confirm you have entered at least 3 characters. Wait a moment for results to load.

  2. Expected record not found: Verify your organization context (you may be viewing a different organization) and check that you have the appropriate role to view that record type.

  3. Search dialog does not open with keyboard shortcut: Click anywhere on the page first to ensure the page has focus, then try Cmd/Ctrl + K again.
