Member Notification Preferences

users/members/MEMBER_NOTIFICATION_PREFERENCES.md

This manual explains how members control notification delivery and notification types.

1. Where To Manage Preferences

Open Profile from the sidebar. You will see two notification areas:

  1. Notification Methods (how notifications are delivered)
  2. Notification Preferences (which categories you receive for your active organization)

2. Notification Methods (Email, SMS, Push)

In Notification Methods, you can enable or disable:

  1. Email notifications
  2. SMS notifications
  3. Push notifications

Important notes:

  1. SMS requires a verified phone number and explicit SMS consent.
  2. If SMS is disabled, verify your phone first, then enable SMS Notifications and accept the consent dialog.
  3. Changes in this section are saved with the profile Save button.
  4. SMS disclosure is available at /policies/sms-consent.html.
  5. By opting into SMS, you also consent to receive core platform notification types such as invoicing, organizational messaging, and flight operations alerts.

3. Organization Notification Categories

In the Notification Preferences section, you can turn categories on or off for the active organization:

  1. Schedule updates
  2. Weather changes
  3. Instructor availability
  4. Availability requests
  5. News updates
  6. Currency reminders
  7. Preflight dispatch timing

Category toggles save immediately when changed.

4. What Each Category Means

  1. Schedule Updates: Created, changed, or canceled events affecting you.
  2. Weather Changes: Significant weather changes relevant to upcoming flights.
  3. Instructor Availability: Instructor availability posted for training scheduling.
  4. Availability Requests: Requests sent to you for availability (primarily instructor/DPE workflows).
  5. News Updates: Notifications when your organization publishes a new News entry. Email, push, and in-app links open the exact entry when supported.
  6. Currency Reminders: Notices for organization-defined and personal reminder items approaching expiration.
  7. Preflight Dispatch Timing: Choose how far before a scheduled flight Contact Ground should send your dispatch brief. Supported choices are At event time, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 1 hour before.

Important:

  1. The default is 30 minutes before.
  2. This timing applies only when your organization uses Automatic flight operations mode.
  3. In Manual mode, operations follow-up is manual and preflight dispatch briefs are not sent automatically.
  1. Keep Schedule Updates enabled.
  2. Keep at least one delivery method enabled (email or push recommended).
  3. Keep News Updates enabled if you want to hear about new organization announcements without checking News manually.
  4. Enable SMS only after phone verification.
  5. Re-check preferences whenever you change roles or organizations.
  6. If you rely on preflight dispatch reminders, choose a reminder time that matches your normal prep window.

6. Troubleshooting

  1. Not receiving anything: Confirm at least one delivery method is enabled in profile settings.
  2. Not receiving only one type: Check that category toggle in Notification Preferences is enabled.
  3. SMS not available: Verify your phone number in profile first.
  4. Not receiving a preflight dispatch brief: Confirm your organization is in Automatic flight operations mode and that your selected reminder time has not already passed long before the event was created.
